Please, take your time to learn about the story of an incredible rescue operation launched by Mr. Carl Lutz then serving as Deputy Consul of Switzerland in Budapest in 1944 – just a few steps from the Shoes on the Danube Monument on the bank of the Danube.
Tens of thousands of Budapest Jews were rescued and saved with the help of the Jewish resistance in Budapest, and thanks to then neutral states and to representatives of the International Red Cross. It was the most extensive and large-scale rescue attempt of the Holocaust. The bilingual exhibition was first open to visitors in Switzerland last year.
